Contest is an accordion-style booklet following George Balanchine’s Agon. where the dance is more abstract than the conventional ballet aesthetics of male and female dancers. Here, he uses only gestures to represent the struggles of a couple.  

The spread of this book format follows the movements of the two dancers, which are reduced to black and white figures. The elongated imagery of the hands signified a connection between the figures below.
